Yeager was one of my subordinates before the war. Not directly so - his captain was someone else - but that brigade in particular was my personal project. I have no shame in saying they were my favorites, for many reasons; they were good people.
Things didn't turn out for them as I would have wanted during the war itself; I consider what happened to them to be my fault. Yeager and one other person were the only survivors of the incident. I don't regret what had to be done to save their lives, but my behavior toward them after all of that was...
